How to access your VMs in VMware vSphere 5.1 using LDAP

I. How to access virtual machines via vSphere Client using LDAP


A. Installing vSphere Client on your PC


1. Enter the following URL into your web browser.
https://vctr5-1.dcb.eis.utoronto.ca(external link)

OR

You can download it from ftp://eis.utoronto.ca/vss/VMware-vSphere-Client-5.1.exe(external link)

2. Click [Download vSphere Client]

3. This will prompt you to [Run or Save the VMware-viclient.exe] installation program. We suggest running it.



4. When installation is complete, you can run the VI Client from the desktop icon that was created.

B. Connecting to the virtual machine using vSphere Client

(Note : For OS compatibility for vSphere Client, refer to Wiki article 2.4.1 vSphere 5.1 Client OS Requirements)




1. Run [vSphere Client]
Enter IP address / Name : [vctr5-1.dcb.eis.utoronto.ca]




2. Enter [User name] and [Password]
Username : Your LDAP ID@ldap.vss.eis.utoronto.ca
(example : john.smith@ldap.vss.eis.utoronto.ca)
Password : vSphere Client Password

(Note : Do not check [Use Windows session credentials])

3. vSphere Client will display your VMs (Home -> Inventory -> VMs and Templates)

4. Now you have access to your VMs as a VM user.



II. How to access virtual machines via vSphere Web Client


A. Enter the following URL into your web browser.



https://vctr5-1.dcb.eis.utoronto.ca:9443/(external link)

B. Enter [Login name] and [Password]


Username : Your LDAP ID@ldap.vss.eis.utoronto.ca
(example : john.smith@ldap.vss.eis.utoronto.ca)
Password : vSphere Client Password

C. Now you have access to your virtual machines as a VM user.
